There are some scientifically proven ways that having a cat could benefit your health, stress levels, and other related things. In this article, I’m going to be talking about five of them. The first way that cats can help lower you stress is by petting them! The action of petting a cat lowers the levels of cortisol, a hormone that causes stress. The second way is that a cats purr can calm your nervous system and lower your blood pressure. Taking care of a cat that purrs puts you at a lower risk for heart disease and stroke, and improves your cardiovascular health. Having cats doesn't just improve your physical health and stress levels, it can improve your mental health too! An Australian study proved that the mental health of people with cats compared to people without pets was considerably better. My fourth and final reason for how cats can benefit you is about our immune system. Research conducted in 2018 (published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology) showed that babies who live with cats for their first year at home have reduced chances of infections like bronchitis, pneumonia, and asthma! These are the four ways that I researched, although there are many more benefits!
